Jeff Keith grew up in Idabel, Oklahoma, where he went to Idabel High School, but then moved with his father to Sacramento, California. Along with Pete Pedri and his brother BK, Jeff formed the band called Troubleshooter and then joined the City Kidd in 1983.

In 1986, the band took the new name Tesla and released their debut studio album entitled “Mechanical Resonance”, which achieved platinum status in the US with over a million records sold, peaking at No. 32 on Billboard’s 200, while the singles “Modern Day Cowboy” and “Little Suzi” were among the most popular. Three years after, Tesla recorded “The Great Radio Controversy”, which achieved double platinum status, and reached No. 18 on Billboard’s 200 chart. The songs “Hang Tough”, “Love Song”, “The Way It Is”, and “Paradise” all entered the Mainstream Rock Tracks chart.

In 1991, the band released third studio album entitled “Psychotic Supper”, also earning platinum status and reaching No. 13 on the Billboard 200. The singles “Edison’s Medicine”, “Call It What You Want”, “What You Give”, “What You Give”, “Song & Emotion”, and “Stir It Up” received the positive critique. Before Tesla disbanded in 1996, they recorded “Bust a Nut” in 1994, which peaked at No. 20 on Billboard’s 200, while the songs “Mama’s Fool”, “Need Your Lovin’”, and “A lot To Lose” all found the place on the Mainstream Rock Tracks chart.

Ten years later, Tesla recorded their fifth studio album – “Into the Now” – which reached No. 31 on Billboard’s 200, and the songs “Caught in a Dream” and “Words Can’t Explain” were positioned in 21st and 35th places on the Mainstream Rock Tracks chart. In 2008, Tesla released “Forever More”, while most recently they released “Simplicity” (2014), which reached No. 24 on the Billboard 200.
During the hiatus with Tesla, Keith and guitarist Tommy Skeoch formed the band called Sofa King, which was later renamed to Bar 7, and recruited guitarist Ray Hinkley, bassist Steve Smith, and drummer Denis Bostok. They recorded only one album, “The World Is a Freak”, in 2000, under the Sindrome Records label.

Regarding his personal life, Jeff Keith has been married to Vera since 2009, and they have a son plus stepdaughter, and currently reside in Granite Bay, California.

Keith often conducts concerts in support of non-profit charities, with all of the money collected going to such organizations as Toys for Tots, Big Brothers Big Sisters and Nor Cal Clean, and Sober Living.
