A woman was dragged into a ditch and sexually assaulted early Monday after a highway collision in the Fredericksburg, Va., area, authorities said.
The woman was driving on a road in Stafford County about 3 a.m. when her car was struck by another vehicle, the sheriff’s office said.
After the collision on Route 3, the driver of the other vehicle pulled her out of her car and dragged her into a nearby ditch, according to the sheriff’s office.
She was sexually assaulted over a two-hour period, the sheriff’s office said.
When the man left, the victim called for help. The incident occurred near Sherwood Forest Farm Road, according to M.C. Morris Moncure, the sheriff’s office spokeswoman. The site is about five miles southeast of Fredericksburg and 60 miles from the District.

The suspect was described by authorities as a Hispanic man, about 30 years old, 5 feet 8 to 5 feet 9, and about 175 pounds.
He had black hair and a short black beard, according to the description provided by the sheriffs office. He wore light colored blue jeans and a sleeveless white tank top under an orange, blue and white plaid long sleeved shirt. He spoke Spanish and broken English.
On Tuesday police released an unusual piece of evidence. It was a photograph of what they said they thought was the assailant’s shirt.
Horizontal and vertical lines ruled it into squares about a half inch on a side. The body of the shirt was wrinkled, and the arms were even more wrinkled.
The sheriff’s office said it was left at the scene.
The assailant’s vehicle was described as a a dark colored SUV. The sheriff’s office said his car may have been marked by front end or passanger side damage and orange paint from the collision.
